Update on weather conditions & the situation in Valencia

1 November 2024

Dear All,

As event organisers, we are responsible for your safety during MVNO Nation Live. Having assessed the situation in the city of Valencia, we are moving forward with the event. Based on the latest information from weather forecasts and reports from the hotel, local suppliers, and contacts, we are confident it is safe to proceed. Our thoughts are with those affected, and we wish for a swift recovery for the impacted communities. Supporting local businesses is one meaningful way we can contribute to their recovery efforts.

Affected Areas: Media footage shows devastation in villages in Valencia province and the outskirts of Valencia city, but not in the city centre itself. [Please see the detailed maps of the affected areas in the province of Valencia] The Hotel Las Arenas, Valencia city centre, and the road connecting the airport and the venue are fully operational and unaffected by the recent flash flood, which subsided two days ago.

Weather Update: The red weather alert has been lifted for the entire province of Valencia, and there are no alerts for the surrounding provinces. There are no warnings for the coming week. The recent DANA storm was a rare meteorological anomaly rather than a periodic occurrence. For the latest updates, please see [Agencia Estatal de Meteorologia / Agency of Meteorology]

Transportation:

  • Valencia Airport - Fully operational. Please see the airport website for the latest updates.

  • Transportation between Valencia Airport and Las Arenas: There are roadworks and closures expected to be addressed shortly, which may extend travel time from 25 minutes to 35 minutes (depending on traffic).

  • Roads: There are partial road closures when entering and leaving Valencia city, with traffic being diverted in certain areas. Please check for updates [Ministerio de transportes / Secretary of Transport]

  • Trains: There are disruptions on certain routes, with train services being the most affected. Please check the official information to see if your journey may be impacted. Renfe (train) updates

Attendance: Based on the messages we have been receiving, there is concern from the Spanish attendees who usually travel by train or road. They expect their journeys to be disrupted and will confirm their attendance next week when updates on repairs are available. They constitute less than 10% of our audience. Most of our attendees travel by plane, and their journeys are unaffected. Please note that we keep receiving new registrations from MVNOs and operators daily.

We will continue to provide updates, but we would like to reiterate that, based on the information above, we are proceeding as planned.

Best Wishes,

MVNO Nation team
